Currumbin Beach in Queensland’s south-east has once again become a vibrant outdoor gallery, thanks to the annual SWELL Sculpture Festival. This renowned event, now in its 24th year, presents a captivating collection of almost 100 large-scale artworks. The free, 10-day exhibition invites visitors to explore artistic creations against the stunning coastal backdrop, concluding on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

Among the featured artists is Patricia Piccinini, an acclaimed invited guest. Her striking bronze sculpture, titled ‘Salute to the Sun,’ offers a fascinating visual experience. Indeed, the piece is described as a ‘chimera,’ masterfully blending elements of deer, tree, fungus, human, and motorcycle into a seamless form. Moreover, such intricate works spark conversation and invite contemplation from passers-by.

The beach itself undergoes a remarkable transformation, becoming an expansive art space. Locals and tourists alike flock to witness the diverse range of sculptures. Each year, the SWELL Sculpture Festival truly becomes a significant cultural highlight for the region. As a result, it fosters a unique connection between art, nature, and community.
