Police have officially laid Geraldton shooting charges against a 30-year-old man. This development follows a recent incident near the regional Western Australian city. The accused is set to appear in court today.
The shooting occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning. A man sustained a gunshot wound to his leg near Moonyoonooka, just east of Geraldton. He was discovered with injuries before 1 am.
The victim received treatment at Geraldton Regional Hospital. Doctors initially described his injuries as serious. However, the WA Country Health Service later confirmed his discharge.
This incident prompted a significant police operation. Officers from the Tactical Response Group fanned out across the Geraldton area. Their investigation ultimately focused on a property in Utakarra.
Stunned residents watched heavily armed officers raid the house. Authorities took five individuals into custody during the operation. The Wonthella man now faces serious allegations.
He stands accused of an unlawful act endangering a person’s life, health, or safety. Moreover, these Geraldton shooting charges also include wilfully destroying evidence. He will face the Geraldton Magistrates Court immediately.
Acting Superintendent Ben Huggett commented on the ongoing inquiry yesterday. He confirmed some of the five arrested individuals were released. Investigators believe three people were directly involved in the shooting.
Police have not disclosed further details about the incident’s cause. They did confirm, however, that the alleged shooter and the victim were known to each other. The investigation remains active.
