A prominent member of the Bandidos Outlaw Motorcycle Gang now faces serious charges. Police allege the 32-year-old man from Delacombe was involved in a botched firebombing at a Melton tobacco shop.
This incident, occurring on September 3, left a 23-year-old man with critical, life-threatening burns. He remains hospitalised in a severe condition, fighting for his life. Authorities have indicated he may never fully recover from his extensive injuries.
CCTV footage from the scene captured a ute reversing into the building. Shortly afterwards, two men exited the vehicle carrying what appeared to be jerry cans of fuel. Tragically, a sudden ball of flame engulfed both individuals moments later.
Detective Inspector Chris Murray of the Arson and Explosives Squad commented on the severe outcome. He stated that if the injured individual succumbs to his wounds, those who planned and assisted the arson would be held personally responsible.
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old man was arrested yesterday following another suspicious fire. This blaze occurred at a shop in Taylors Lakes early yesterday morning. Emergency services responded to reports of a business on Melton Highway being set alight around 4:25 am. No occupants were inside the premises at the time.
Police pursued two men through Melbourne’s western suburbs after the Taylors Lakes incident. The pair eventually abandoned their vehicle in Brookfield and fled on foot. Officers apprehended them soon after.
The 42-year-old Melton man arrested alongside the Bandidos member was interviewed and subsequently released, pending a summons. The 32-year-old has been charged with several offences related to the Melton fire. These include recklessly causing serious injury, aggravated burglary, criminal damage by fire, and reckless conduct endangering life.
